New York - One in five Americans over the age of 12 owns an MP3 player, with 6% reporting owning more than one, according to a recent survey conducted by market research firm Ipsos Insight.

Virgin France Fined $750,000 for Piracy of Madonna Song

London - Virgin France, a unit of Lagardere, has been fined over $750,000 by a French court for copyright violations, after it posted a Madonna song for sale on its website that was under an exclusive deal between Warner Music France and French wireless operators Orange and France Telecom, the International Herald Tribune reported.

San Francisco - Adult entertainment production company Io Group this week filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against video-sharing site Veoh Networks, alleging the company allowed its users to post its copyrighted Titan Video titles and view them over 40,000 times during the month of June, The Wall Street Journal reported.

WIRED: Rupert Murdoch Interview on MySpace, New Media

San Francisco - The most recent issue of WIRED magazine features an interview with Rupert Murdoch, the CEO of media conglomerate News Corp., who over the past year has spent $1.5 billion acquiring Internet companies including social networking site MySpace. "We're looking at the ultimate opportunity," Murdoch told WIRED. "The Internet is media's golden age." In addition to Murdoch's revelation that Google "could have bought MySpace three months before we did for half the price," a News Corp. executive commented for the piece that the company beat out rival bidder Viacom, which was already deep in negotiations with MySpace. "They were pulling fingernails over the last $50 million," the executive said of Viacom.

When TDG released our Advanced Mobile Operating Systems report in February of this year 2006 - a report presenting the case as to why mobile Linux and Windows would both pick up market share at the cost of Symbian's dominance - we received quite a bit of feedback. While much of the feedback was positive, not surprisingly some of it was negative - the cost of being the first to officially offend the incumbent!
