Computer giant Dell said on Wednesday that founder Michael Dell will assume the role of CEO, replacing Kevin Rollins, who has resigned. Dell also will retain his duties as chairman of the board. "There is no better person in the world to run Dell at this time than the man who created" the company, said Samuel Nunn, the presiding director of Dell's board. Dell founded the company in 1984 and previously served as its CEO until 2004. The move comes as Dell said that its fourth quarter financial results will fall below Wall Street estimates for both revenue and earnings per share.

NFL to Offer Super Bowl Highlights Video on iTunes

New York - The National Football League announced that it will sell a package of video highlights from Sunday's Super Bowl XLI from Apple's iTunes Store the following day on Monday, Feb. 5. The $1.99 download will include a wrap show hosted by NFL Network commentators Rich Eisen, Steve Mariucci and Deion Sanders. The NFL began selling video game highlights packages on iTunes in September.

XM Satellite Radio Extends Deal with Toyota Through 2017

Washington - Just a day after announcing a new 10-year pact with American Honda, XM Satellite Radio, a provider of satellite radio service to more than 7.6 million subscribers, said on Wednesday that it has signed a similar deal with Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A. The latest deal extends the current partnership between XM and Toyota through 2017. XM is the factory-installed satellite radio provider for Toyota and Lexus vehicle models. Toyota said that its annual products of XM-equipped vehicles is expected to exceed one million by 2010.

Thumbplay Gets License to Sell Ringtones From EMI Music Artists

New York - Mobile entertainment distributor Thumbplay announced on Wednesday an agreement with major label EMI Music, to sell ringtones from EMI artists direct to consumers. The service will offer both subscription and a la carte purchase options, with ringtones delivered over-the-air and charges billed to a consumer's mobile bill.

Vringo Debuts Video Ringtones Service at DEMO 07

Palm Desert, Calif. [DEMO 07] - Vringo on Wednesday introduced its video ringtones service at the DEMO 07 event in Palm Desert, Calif. The company will offer the service -- which allows users to share short video clips each time they make a phone call -- directly to consumers and together with wireless carriers.  Content will include both user-generated clips and licensed material from TV, movies and music videos. Vringo's service is currently available as an invitation-only private beta.

Mobio Networks Introduces Mobile Portal for Web Mash-ups

Palm Desert, Calif. [DEMO 07] - Mobio Networks on Wednesday debuted its mobile lifestyle portal that provides over 50 applications and widgets based on mash-ups of various Web services at the DEMO 07 event in Palm Desert, Calif. The GetMobio portal includes applications like nightlife listings, and airline, restaurant, movie and golf tee time reservations. Cupertino, Calif.-based Mobio said it will offer 10 versions of GetMobio, tailored to preferences such as "After Midnight," "Urban Trekker" and "Outwitting the Kids."

Brevient Releases Jyngle Mobile Group Messaging Service

Palm Desert, Calif. [DEMO 07] - Brevient Technologies on Tuesday released the public version of its Jyngle mobile group messaging service. The free service allows users to create and join unlimited groups for sports teams, volunteer organizations or even happy hour specials, and send and receive combined voice and text messages to all members of the group. Milwaukee, Wisc.-based Brevient said it will also market Jyngle to businesses for use as a promotional tool.

Motricity to Create Mobile Content for Bravo's "Top Chef," "Top Design"

Los Angeles - NBC Universal's Bravo cable TV network announced on Wednesday that it has tapped mobile content developer Motricity to create mobile applications for its "Top Chef" and "Top Design" series. Features will include live weekly votes where responses are posted on-air later in the program.

Atari to Publish "Godzilla: Unleashed" in Fall of 2007

New York - Atari announced on Wednesday plans to publish "Godzilla: Unleashed," based on the classic Japanese monster movie character, in the fall of 2007. The game is currently in development for Nintendo Wii, DS and Sony PSP.

THQ to Release "Saint's Row" for PlayStation 3

Agoura Hills, Calif. - Video game publisher THQ announced on Wednesday that it will publish a version of its Xbox 360 title "Saint's Row" for Sony's PlayStation 3 in the second quarter of 2007. THQ cited sales of the Xbox 360 version of the game for helping to boost its revenue 68% during the second quarter of 2006.

Take-Two Resurrects Football Franchise "All-Pro Football 2K8"

New York - Take-Two Interactive on Wednesday announced plans to re-introduce its "All-Pro Football" franchise with the release of "All-Pro Football 2K8" this summer for next-generation consoles. The company has not released a sequel in the franchise for the past three years.

Google Nearly Triples Quarterly Profit

Mountain View, Calif. - In what has become a quarterly ritual, Google on Wednesday again surpassed analyst expectations by posting a fourth quarter profit that nearly tripled its figure from a year ago.

Survey: 61% of Analog TV Households Still Unaware of Digital Transition

Washington - The majority of U.S. households that receive only over-the-air TV signals (61%) are still unaware that these analog transmissions will be shut off in February 2009, and compel an estimated 22 million households to make some sort of digital transition, according to a survey conducted by research firm ICR Media for the Association of Public Television Stations (APTS).

AOL Sees 41% Jump in Ad Revenue in 2006

Dulles, Va. - Despite losing a large portion of its subscriber base, AOL saw its advertising revenue jump 41% last year, Time Warner said on Wednesday.

DreamWorks Animation Parts With "Wallace & Gromit" Producer Aardman
