Muze to Power Mobile Music Service for O2 Germany

New York - Muze, a provider of informational databases on music, movies, books and games, on Tuesday announced that its Open Media Exchange platform will be used to power a new subscription-based mobile music service for wireless carrier O2 Germany. Users can download directly over-the-air, or first to a PC and then transfer tracks to their phones. The service supports progressive playback, meaning consumers can listen to a song while it's being downloaded. Muze and O2 also partnered with MTV to offer MTV's Top Ten tracks of the week for dual-delivery download to PCs and mobile devices.

DoubleClick Launches New "Teaser" Flash Video Ad Format

New York - Digital marketing technology and services firm DoubleClick on Tuesday introduced a new online ad format, the "Teaser," that features short flashes of video. Universal Pictures is the first to utilize the format, in connection with advertising for its upcoming film, "The Bourne Ultimatum." When the Flash video ad is rolled over, three links appear that drive users to the film's trailer, an online game, and Internet ticket sales.

Pando Hits 10 Million Installs of Peer-to-Peer File-Sharing Software

New York - Pando Networks, a provider of peer-to-peer content distribution technology, said on Tuesday that its free application has now been installed 10 million times since it was launched 14 months ago. The application, which is now averaging more than 40,000 new installations daily, allows general file-sharing and also enables commercial content owners and media companies to stream and download full-screen, HD-quality video to consumers.

Music Legend Quincy Jones Launches Video Podcast

Beverly Hills, Calif. - Podcast aggregator and distributor Wizzard Media on Tuesday announced the debut of a new video podcast series from legendary musician and producer Quincy Jones. The series, which will run 26 episodes in its first year, is produced by Quincy with The Robert Thorne Company and will be available on Jones' website, MySpace and the Wizzard Media Channel on iTunes. The first episode features Jones in the studio with Celine Dion, while future episodes will discuss film, popular culture, politics and current events.

AT&T's Blue Room to Offer Live Lollapalooza Webcast

San Antonio, Texas - AT&T said on Tuesday that its blue room broadband entertainment site will offer an exclusive live webcast of the 2007 Lollapalooza festival in Chicago. Webcasts from the festival, of which AT&T is the presenting sponsor, will begin at 12:30 p.m. CT on each of the three days of the festival, which kicks off on Friday.

PayPerPost Integrates Paid Blogging Service With Facebook

Orlando - PayPerPost, an online service that connects marketers with bloggers, videographers, photographers, podcasters and social networks, has launched an application that allows bloggers to view sponsored content opportunities they qualify for in PayPerPost, from within their Faceboook social network accounts. PayPerPost advertisers can use the application to display and promote their sponsored content opportunities inside the Facebook community, the company said.

GGL Introduces MLB Virtual World Series Online Game Tournament

Santa Monica, Calif. - GGL (Global Gaming League), a producer of online game tournaments, announced on Tuesday the creation of the MLB Virtual World Series tournament.  The online baseball game tournament will commence in December with a pre-season ladder competition, followed by a regular season, playoffs and finally the Virtual World Series, which will coincide with MLB opening day in April 2008. GGL said it will produce showcase events at regular intervals involving professional MLB players.

PlayFirst Launches "Wedding Dash" Casual Game

Research Triangle Park, N.C. - Virtual Heroes, a developer of interactive learning applications for the federal systems, healthcare and commercial markets, said on Tuesday that it has licensed Epic Games' Unreal Engine 3 for use in the development of serious games and advanced learning technologies. Virtual Heroes will use the Unreal Engine 3 in the development of its Dynamic Virtual Human Technology, which is targeted at the medical education and training market.

Eminem's Music Publisher Sues Apple for Copyright Infringement

Detroit - Hip-hop artist Eminem's copyright administrators have sued Apple Inc. for copyright infringement, unfair competition and violation of consumer protection laws, over the company's alleged unauthorized sale of downloads of his songs from the iTunes Store, the Associated Press reported.

The SimpsonsIt’s rare that Hollywood studios don’t respond to a box office hit with a sequel or two.  For an industry whose audience is a moving target, the sequel is one of the safest bets.  And following a weekend in which The Simpsons Movie beat all expectations, including those of the folks at 20th Century Fox, it stands to reason that a series which has seen declining TV ratings of late might have found a new home on the big screen.  Take a closer look at the film and the strategy seems even more plausible.
