Yahoo to Power Mobile Search for T-Mobile in Europe

Barcelona - Yahoo (NASD: YHOO) on Tuesday announced a new strategic partnership with wireless network operator T-Mobile, and will become the exclusive mobile search service for T-Mobile customers in Europe as of the end of March. "T-Mobile's decision to work with Yahoo is a clear demonstration of the strength of our industry-leading mobile search service and our ability to work with partners to give consumers the best possible mobile Internet experience," says Marco Boerries, EVP of Yahoo's Connected Life unit.

Nokia Adds Google Mobile Search

Barcelona - Nokia (NYSE: NOK) said on Tuesday that it will add Google's (NASD: GOOG) search engine to the selection available on its mobile phones, joining other options from Yahoo and Microsoft. Google search will initially be available only on select phones in limited markets, but Nokia plans to expand this to additional models in over 100 countries.

eMusic Debuts Digital A&R Program for Unsigned Artists

New York - Digital music retailer eMusic on Tuesday announced the launch of a new curated section of its service that will showcase unsigned and underexposed new artists. The eMusic Selects feature will include one or two artists each month, handpicked by eMusic staff, who will receive in-depth editorial coverage both on the eMusic Selects page and on the site's 17dots.com blog. Artists will agree to provide often previously unreleased music exclusively to eMusic in digital format for 60 days, and eMusic subscribers will gain access to a free song download from each act.

America Movil Gets Mobile YouTube Vids in Latin America

Mexico City - America Movil, the largest wireless network operator in Latin America, has announced a two-year exclusive deal to feature videos from Google's (NASD: GOOG) YouTube on its 3G mobile phones, Reuters reported. The content will first be available in Mexico, but expand to Brazil later in the first quarter and eventually to other countries. Under the deal, YouTube will share unspecified advertising revenue with America Movil.

DIC Debuts Web Video Channel KewlCartoons.com

Burbank, Calif. - DIC Entertainment, a distributor of children's TV programming, on Tuesday announced the launch of its first online video channel, KewlCartoons.com, which will feature new and classic cartoons from the company's library of over 3,000 episodes. DIC titles include "Inspector Gadget," "Dino Squad," "Horseland," "Sonic the Hedgehog" and "Care Bears." The company also plans to launch new property sites this year for brands including "Eloise," "Beginner's Bible" and "Inspector Gadget."

MovieFlix.com Offers Unlimited Download Service

Hollywood - Broadband video-on-demand service MovieFlix.com announced on Tuesday a new download-to-own subscription plan, that allows unlimited movie downloads from its library of over 4,000 titles for $9.95 per month. The MovieFlix.com catalog includes a range of 1930's films, B-movies in the action, sci-fi, martial arts, horror and western genres, classic TV episodes and other fare.

Online Bookseller Alibris Partners with Blackwell U.K.

Emeryville, Calif. - Alibris, an online marketplace for new and second-hand books, on Tuesday announced a partnership with Blackwell U.K., a retailer of academic and professional books in the U.K. Under the deal, Blackwell customers will be able to search and order from Alibris' inventory of more than 75 million books, in addition to Blackwell's own catalog of more than 3 million books.

LibreDigital Debuts Book "Mashup" Service for Publishers

New York - LibreDigital, a developer of digital publishing technologies, on Tuesday announced the launch of a new "mashups" service, which will allow publishers to provide consumers with custom books made from content compiled from different book titles in publisher portfolios. The company said that publishers including Bloomsbury, HarperCollins and Hachette are using the new eCompile service to enable consumers to create custom orders from books, college textbooks and professional directories.

EA Extends NFL Game Licensing Deals Through 2012

Redwood City, Calif. - Electronic Arts (NASD: ERTS) announced on Tuesday that it has signed an extension of its exclusive licensing deals with the NFL and players' union through the end of the 2012 season. Financial terms were not disclosed. The deals give EA the rights to use official teams, stadiums and players in titles such as "Madden NFL."

"Super Smash Bros. Brawl" for Wii Hits 1 Million Sales in Japan

Tokyo - Nintendo's "Super Smash Bros. Brawl" has become the fastest-selling game for the Wii to reach 1 million units in Japan, Reuters reports, citing Japanese game magazine publisher Enterbrain. The game reached 1 million in sales just 11 days following its launch on Jan. 31, besting both "Wii Fit" (7 weeks) and "Wii Sports" (11 weeks) to the milestone. The anticipated game is slated for release in North America on March 9.

Brash Ships Game Based on 20th Century Fox's "Jumper"

Hollywood - Video game developer Brash Entertainment on Tuesday shipped its "Jumper: Griffin's Story" title, based on the upcoming 20th Century Fox/Regency Enterprises film, to retailers. The game for Xbox 360, Wii and PlayStation 2 features the voice and likeness of Jamie Bell, the star from the film who is the subject of the game.

Sunnyvale, Calif. - Two weeks after announcing plans to cut 1,000 jobs, Yahoo (NASD: YHOO) on Tuesday was expected to notify the affected employees, The Wall Street Journal reported. The cuts come at a time when Yahoo is attempting to stave off a hostile takeover by Microsoft (NASD: MSFT), which on Tuesday vowed to "move forward" with its acquisition efforts after Yahoo's board on Monday officially rejected its $44.6 billion offer.

London - The U.K. record industry trade group (BPI) has called on Internet service providers in the country to adopt anti-piracy strategies similar to those recently taken in France, where they are now required to shut off access to those who use file-sharing networks to acquire copyrighted content, and the U.K. government is set to propose legislation to that effect, according to reports. "We simply want ISPs to advise customers if their account is being used to distribute music illegally, and then, if the advice is ignored, enforce their own terms and conditions about abuse of the account," said BPI CEO Geoff Taylor, adding that illegal downloading "costs the music business hundreds of millions of pounds a year."

Yahoo Acquires Maven Networks for $160 Million

Sunnyvale, Calif. - Yahoo (NASD: YHOO) announced on Tuesday that it has acquired Maven Networks, a provider of online video syndication, content management and advertising service, for $160 million. Founded in 2002, Cambridge, Mass.-based Maven currently manages online video for over 30 media companies, including Sony BMG, CBS Sports, Hearst, Gannett, Scripps Networks and the Financial Times.
