Yahoo Moves European HQ From London to Geneva

Yahoo (NASD: YHOO) is planning a move of its European headquarters from London to Geneva, Switzerland, for tax reasons. Some 70 of its top managers in the UK are told to relocate or lose their jobs, according to Financial Times (FT).

Austin, Texas - Lou Reed is decidedly frosty on the notion of digital music. A classic audiophile. "Technology is making it easier to make things worse," he proclaimed during his keynote interview on Thursday at SXSW, with veteran music producer and 20-year collaborator Hal Willner. "If you are one of those people like me who like 'good sound,' you need good speakers, a good stereo, and (as an artist) your price of recording goes up, because you need a good mic, good cables...If you don't like good sound, go with MP3."

Report: China Surpasses U.S. as World's Top Web Market

According to research from Beijing-based BDA, based on data from the China Internet Network Information Center, the country had 210 million internet users at the end of 2007, compared to Nielsen/NetRatings findings of 216 million.

New York - Disney (NYSE: DIS) president and CEO Bob Iger believes that the computer will soon replace television as children’s screen of choice. He made the remark at the McGraw-Hill Media Summit in New York yesterday. Iger also stressed how social media was far from a fad, but in fact a part of everyday life for children, according to Broadcasting & Cable.

San Francisco - Microsoft (NASD: MSFT) is not in talks to include Sony (NYSE: SNE) Blu-ray high-definition DVD technology in its Xbox 360 video game console, according to Aaron Greenberg, group product manager for Xbox 360. Microsoft will, instead, continue to invest in the Xbox Live online service, which lets users rent movies, including ones in high-definition, over the Internet.

Mountain View – Google will announce a new service for web publishers to help them manage their online ad sales and serve ads every time a reader lands on a page, the WSJ reports. "The offering is an early sign of Google's plans to broaden its ad offerings following the completion of its $3.1 billion DoubleClick Inc. acquisition this week."

Nine Inch Nails "Free" Album Pulls In $1.6M In Its First Week

Los Angeles - Nine Inch Nails pulled in a healthy $1.6 million in revenues during the first week after they released their new album "Ghosts I-IV" Radiohead-style. The release resulted in just under 800,000 transactions and is its first offering since the band's major label contract with Interscope expired last October, including a mix of free and paid downloads, regular CDs and various limited edition versions.

EA Makes Hostile Bid for Take-Two Interactive

Los Angeles - After its unsolicited bid to acquire Take-Two Interactive was rejected, EA (NSDQ: ERTS) launched a tender offer to acquire all of Take-Two's outstanding shares for $26 each, the price it offered the company last month, the WSJ reports.
