Adobe CEO: Flash Applications to Run on iPhone

San Francisco - Adobe Systems (NASD: ADBE) plans to work with Apple (NASD: AAPL) to enable Flash applications to run on the iPhone, according to Adobe CEO Shantau Narayen, who made the statement during a conference call with reporters on Tuesday, CNET News.com reported. "We've evaluated the SDK. We can now start to develop the Flash player ourselves, and we think it benefits our joint customers. So we want to work with Apple to bring that capability to the device," said Narayen, according to a transcript posted by Seeking Alpha. The comments come after statements from Apple CEO Steve Jobs that both Flash and Flash Lite would not work well on the iPhone.

Facebook Debuts New Privacy Options, Confirms Plans for Chat

Palo Alto, Calif. - Facebook is implementing changes to its social network that will allow users to control what their friends, and friends of friends see on their profiles, Reuters reported. Members will be able to create up to 100 "friends lists," where each list is allowed different levels of access to their profile information. The company also confirmed that it will introduce a new Web-based chat feature in a couple of weeks.

Vodafone Gets Exclusive Multi-track Preview of Madonna Album

London - Mobile network operator Vodafone (NYSE: VOD) announced that it has reached a deal with Warner Music International (NYSE: WMG), that will give its subscribers access to tracks from Madonna's forthcoming album "Hard Candy" a week before it goes on sale. Beginning on April 21, one of seven tracks from the album will be released each day, and remain available for download for 24 hours before being replaced by the next track. Vodafone subscribers in Spain, Portugal, Germany and Belgium additionally get exclusive mobile access to the new single "4 Minutes" immediately.

Dow Jones Newswires Dumps Associated Press for AFP

New York - News Corp.'s (NYSE: NWS) Dow Jones & Company announced that it will not renew the news partnership between its Dow Jones Newswires and the Associated Press, and instead has signed a deal to distribute editorial content from rival Agence France-Presse (AFP). The company noted that the deal does not affect agreements between AP and The Wall Street Journal and Dow Jones Factiva. Dow Jones Newswires publishes up to 12,000 items each day, reporting from nearly 90 bureaus worldwide. The company said it also plans to expand its global editorial staff, and that the changes are part of its broader strategy to invest in its global financial news operations.

Comcast Hits 7 Billion Video-on-Demand Views

Philadelphia - Comcast (NASD: CMCSA), the nation's largest cable TV provider, said on Wednesday that its On Demand service has now served up more than 7 billion video-on-demand views, and 1 billion viewing hours since 2003. The service offers a library of over 10,000 titles per month. "The numbers speak for themselves...each month our customers watch roughly 40 million movies On Demand," said Derek Harrar, SVP and general manager of video services for Comcast.

SanDisk Offers Promo MicroSD Card with 50-Plus Artists

Milpitas, Calif. - SanDisk (NASD: SNDK), a maker of Flash-based MP3 players and storage media products, announced on Wednesday that it will offer a promotional microSD card containing DRM-free music from over 50 new and emerging artists. The "Sansa Sessions" microSD card includes songs, music videos and photos from more than 30 labels, and features artists such as Ladytron, Of Montreal and The Coup. The card is being offered as a promotion for the launch of SanDisk's 8GB Sansa Fuze player, and can be acquired via an offer inside the box.

Report: iPhone Mobile Web, Video Usage Tops Mobile Market

Seattle - Apple's (NASD: AAPL) iPhone is handily beating competitors in the smartphone category, and blowing away the cell phone market in general when it comes to using a mobile phone to access news or information, watch live or on-demand video, access social networks or listen to music, according to a report from market research firm M:Metrics. In January, 85% of iPhone users accessed news or information, compared with 58.2% of smartphone owners and 13.1% of all cell phone owners; while 49.7% of iPhone visited a social networking site or blog, compared with 19.4% smartphones/4.2% total market.

Report: Toshiba to Report $986 Million Loss at HD DVD Unit

Tokyo - Toshiba is likely to report a loss of about $986 million at its HD DVD business for the year, after deciding to discontinue the format and cede victory to Sony's (NYSE: SNE) Blu-ray, according to an estimate in Japan's Nikkei business paper, Reuters reports.

Minneapolis - In light of the format's impending demise at the hands of Sony's (NYSE: SNE) Blu-ray, electronics and media retail chain Best Buy (NYSE: BBY) announced on Wednesday that it will provide $50 gift cards to customers who purchased an HD DVD player or HD DVD attachment from its U.S. stores before Feb. 23 -- and expects to shell out more than $10 million during the program.

Reports: Apple in Talks with Labels on Unlimited Music Services

London - Apple (NASD: AAPL) is in talks with the major record labels on possible new models that would see music come pre-loaded, or be available through unlimited subscription plans on its iPod and iPhone devices, the Financial Times reports. While Nokia (NYSE: NOK), which signed a deal with Universal Music for an unlimited "Comes With Music" service, will reportedly pay nearly $80 per handset to music companies, Apple is offering only about $20 per device, two executives familiar with the negotiations told FT.com.
