3 UK, Sony BMG Launch Ad-supported Mobile Music Videos

London - Mobile network operator 3 UK has launched its first ad-supported mobile music video channel with major label Sony BMG. The service is offered with no data charges to subscribers, but requires that they view short ads at the beginning and end of each video.

XM Taps QuickPlay to Create BlackBerry Mobile Radio Service

Las Vegas - XM Satellite Radio (NASD: XMSR) said on Tuesday that it partnered with mobile media firm QuickPlay Media to develop an XM Radio Mobile service for BlackBerry smartphones. The service offers 20 of XM's channels for $7.99 per month, and is compatible with BlackBerry devices with version 4.2 software or higher, including the 8800 Series, 8700 Series, Pearl and Curve.

JumpTap to Provide Mobile Ads for Fox, NBC Universal

Cambridge, Mass. - JumpTap, a provider of mobile search and advertising services, announced on Tuesday deals with Fox Mobile Entertainment (NYSE: NWS) and NBC Universal (NYSE: GE) to provide mobile ad services across a range of sites. The company will sell available WAP ad inventory for mobile sites associated with Fox, FX, Speed, National Geographic Channel and Fox Reality Channel, in addition to NBC Entertainment, NBC Sports, Universal Pictures, USA Network, SCI FI Channel and Bravo.

Advocacy Groups Debut "Gamers for Net Neutrality" Initiative

Wilton, Conn. - The Entertainment Consumers Association (ECA), a non-profit that represents video game enthusiasts, said on Tuesday that it has launched a Web-based initiative called Gamers for Net Neutrality. The ECA and its partners in the initiative -- SavetheInternet.com and Games for Change -- said the site aims to inform gamers about the issue. "Why let the telecom giants dictate what speed we play our games, view our video, or listen to music?" said Suzanne Seggerman, president and co-founder of Games for Change. "Gamers, as one of the largest audiences on the internet, need to act now -- before it's too late."

Game Ratings Board, Clearspring Offer Game Ratings Widget

Los Angeles - The Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB), the video game industry's voluntary agency that provides game ratings for parents, on Tuesday began offering a new widget that can be placed on websites and social network profiles, or downloaded to a desktop, that will provide easy access to ratings on over 14,000 titles. "Last year, the ratings search feature of our website was incredibly popular, with more than 4 million ratings searches having been conducted," said ESRB president Patricia Vance. "There's clearly a huge appetite among consumers for ratings information, and providing this widget will make it that much easier for them to make informed purchase or rental decisions."

Hudson Entertainment to Distribute Tracks on eMusic

Record Labels Sue Pirate Bay Founders for $2.5 Million

Stockholm, Sweden - The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) yesterday filed a $2.5 million copyright infringement lawsuit in Sweden against The Pirate Bay, the notorious file-sharing tracker site. Pirate Bay co-founder Gorrfrid Warg responded to the lawsuit in Sweden's The Local thusly: "the record companies can go screw themselves."

WSJ: Microsoft Has no Plans to Raise Bid for Yahoo

Sunnyvale, Calif. - Despite speculation to the contrary, software giant Microsoft (NASD: MSFT) has no plans to raise its $44.6 billion offer for Yahoo (NASD: YHOO), The Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday. Citing "people close to the company," the paper reported that Microsoft plans to stand pat on its offer. "There's no reason to bid against ourselves," one of its sources told the Journal.
