Perez Hilton in Syndicated Radio Deal with ABC Radio Networks

Dallas - Celebrity gossip blogger Perez Hilton this week signed a deal with ABC Radio Networks to host a twice-daily celebrity news radio feature that will be syndicated exclusively through ABC Radio Networks. The two-minute weekday feature will be broadcast by stations including WQHT (New York), KPWR (Los Angeles) and WBBM (Chicago) beginning on May 5. The deal was signed between ABC Radio and "C" Student Entertainment. Hilton also has a TV show, "What Perez Sez," on VH1.

Dolby, Infitec Team to Develop 3D Digital Cinema System

Los Angeles - Dolby Laboratories' (NYSE: DLB) Digital Cinema unit this week announced a deal with Germany's Infitec to develop and market a digital 3D cinema delivery system for theaters, Variety reported. The company hopes its system, which will compete with offerings from Real D and In-Three, will be available for deployment by next spring.

Nokia to Debut Music Store in Australia Next Week

Espoo, Finland - Nokia (NYSE: NOK) plans to launch another Nokia Music Store in Australia next week, which at launch will offer 2.5 million tracks from all the majors except for Warner Music, along with a number of Australian independent labels. Nokia claims that 45% of the available tracks will be from Aussie artists. Nokia has previously launched music stores in the U.K., Ireland and the Netherlands.

TidalTV Signs Deal With National Geographic Ventures

Baltimore - TidalTV, a new broadband video startup from Advertising.com co-founder Scott Ferber, said that it has signed a deal with National Geographic Ventures to showcase programming from the National Geographic Channel (NGC) on its platform. The content, to be available when TidalTV launches in beta mode later this spring, will include full-length episodes from series such as "Taboo," "Critical Situation," "Man-Made" and "Wild," as well as clips from various other shows. Earlier this year, TidalTV raised $15 million in its first round of funding.

Mad Catz to Make Coffin Cases for "Guitar Hero" Controllers

San Diego - Video game accessories maker Mad Catz Interactive said on Friday that it has signed a multi-year licensing agreement with the Coffin Case Company, for the right to make Coffin Case-branded carrying cases for guitar controllers, straps, drums and other accessories for use with the games "Rock Band" and "Guitar Hero."

AOL Laying Off 100 from Platform-A Ad Unit

New York - Time Warner's (NYSE: TWX) AOL is laying off around 100 employees from its new Platform-A advertising unit, which was created through the blending of several acquisitions, including Adverstising.com, Tacoda, Quigo, Third Screen Media, Lightningcast and Adtech, Silicon Alley Insider reports.

Senator Petitions FCC to Reject XM-Sirius Merger

Washington - Sen. Byron Dorgan (D-N.D.), a high-ranking member of the Senate Commerce Committee, on Friday wrote to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) asking the agency to block the $5 billion merger of satellite radio firms XM (NASD: XMSR) and Sirius (NASD: SIRI), Reuters reported.

MTV Adds Full Album Downloads to "Rock Band" Game

New York - Viacom's (NYSE: VIA) MTV Networks said this week that it will begin offering owners of its "Rock Band" video game to download full albums compatible with the game beginning next week, to include records from Judas Priest, the Cars and the Pixies.

MPAA Sues Streaming Movie, TV Index Site Pullmylink.com

Los Angeles - The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) yesterday filed a federal copyright infringement suit against Pullmylink.com, saying the site "contributes to and profits from massive copyright infringement by identifying, posting, organizing and indexing links to infringing content found on the Internet." The site does not host content, but provides links in pop-up windows to third-party video sites where users have posted movies and TV shows.

Report: Despite Economy, U.S. Game Sales Up 57% in March

Port Washington, N.Y. - Bypassing the current troubles in the overall economy, U.S. video game sales hit $1.7 billion in March, up 57% from a year ago on strong sales of Nintendo's Wii and "Super Smash Bros. Brawl," according to industry sales data compiled by market research firm NPD Group. "You'd never know that the U.S. economy was under distress by looking at the video games industry sales figures," said NPD analyst Anita Frazier.

CW Yanks "Gossip Girl" Streams in Bid to Boost TV Ratings

Los Angeles - The CW has decided to stop streaming free episodes of "Gossip Girl" from its website, in a test to see whether the popular streams were eating into the show's TV audience, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

NY Times Internet Revenue Up; Overall Revenue Drops

New York - Internet revenue for The New York Times Co. (NYSE: NYT) rose 14.8% in the last quarter, while the company's overall revenue decreased to $235.4 million, a 6.4% drop compared to the same period a year ago, the company announced.

Take-Two Rejects Lowered Takeover Bid from Electronic Arts

New York - Video game publisher Take-Two Interactive (NASD: TTWO) said on Thursday that just 8% of its shareholders were in favor of Electronic Arts' (NASD: ERTS) $2 billion bid for the company, prompting EA to extend the deadline and slightly reduce its offer -- which Take-Two again rejected. "The minuscule number of shares tendered, as well as the strong vote in favor of the proposals presented at our annual meeting, offer indisputable evidence that our stockholders regard our efforts to enhance Take-Two's stockholder value as superior to the EA offer," Take-Two chairman Strauss Zelnick.

The author, Matthew Creamer, suggests that Web 3.0 will be about monetizing the web's openness and points to examples in the news business of websites aggregating other people's content for profit.
