Disney-ABC Inks Deal to Stream Full TV Episodes on Veoh

Los Angeles - Disney's (NYSE: DIS) ABC has signed a deal to offer full episodes of some of its primetime TV shows on Veoh, a video site backed by former Disney head Michael Eisner. Included will be episodes of "Lost," "Desperate Housewives," "Ugly Betty" and other programs, in addition to clips from Disney-owned sports network ESPN. Under the terms, Veoh will utilize ABC's own media player on its site, and pay Veoh based on the traffic it generates for ABC.com, according to PaidContent.

eMusic Looking to Expand Into DRM-Free TV Show Distribution

New York - Digital music service eMusic is looking to expand into selling TV episode downloads, but would only do so if they could be delivered DRM-free, NewTeeVee reported, citing eMusic CEO David Pakman. To this point, New York-based eMusic has mainly offered independent label music to subscribers. The report said that such a service, which the company said would be targeting "long tail" programs and not current primetime hits, would likely take a year or so to launch.

Softbank to Sell iPhone From $214 in Japan

Tokyo - Japanese wireless carrier Softbank will sell Apple's 8GB iPhone starting at 23,040 yen (about $214.60) next month, with monthly service fees estimated at 7,280 yen (about $67.50). "We expect the first lot to evaporate instantly. We in the company will probably fight to get one as well," Softbank CEO Masayoshi Son told Reuters. "Supplies will likely be scarce for a while."

MediaFLO, ESPN, NBC to Offer Wimbledon Live on Mobile TV

San Diego - Qualcomm's (NASD: QCOM) MediaFLO USA mobile TV unit said on Monday that it has partnered with ESPN on ESPN Mobile TV and NBC Sports on NBC 2Go to provide live TV coverage of this year's Wimbledon tennis tournament on mobile phones. The 119 hours of live coverage will be available via MediaFLO TV to AT&T Mobile TV subscribers, available in 58 major U.S. markets.

Wavexpress to Power NBC Olympics Video Download Service

New York - NBC on Monday announced that it will offer free downloads of its Olympics coverage on laptop computers running Microsoft Windows Vista Media Center. Powered by Wavexpress' TVTonic, the NBC Olympics on the Go service will automatically download selected events on a sport-by-sport basis, "so viewers will have a fresh slate of Olympic content to watch on their morning commute."

Fox Taps Passenger for Online TV Viewer Community

Schwarzenneger Asks Calif. ISPs to Block Child Pornography

Sacramento, Calif. - California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Attorney General Edmund G. Brown Jr. on Friday asked California's Internet service providers to follow the lead of Verizon, Time Warner Cable and Sprint by "removing child pornography from existing servers and blocking channels" that disseminate the illegal material. Earlier this month, the three ISPs announced an agreement with New York State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, under which they would eliminate access to child pornography newsgroups on Usenet, and also purge any existing child pornography on their servers.

New York - Representatives of the Beatles are in talks with Activision (NASD: ATVI) and Viacom's (NYSE: VIA) MTV Games, makers of the "Guitar Hero" and "Rock Band" video games, respectively, on deals that would license Beatles songs for inclusion in future iterations of the games, the Financial Times reported on Monday. The deals are reported to be worth "several million dollars," sources told FT, and could be completed within weeks.

Report: Newspapers Facing Worst Ad Year on Record

New York - This year could wind up as the worst on record for the newspaper advertising industry, which is dealing with long-term industry changes as well as the weakened economy and housing market, The New York Times reported on Monday. After an 8% decline in advertising revenue last year, newspapers are seeing an additional 12% drop so far this year, and financial reports issued by some recently would suggest a 14-15% decline in May.
