Hacker Group Claims "Jailbreak" of iPhone 3G

San Francisco - A hacker group called the "iPhone Dev Team" has announced the release of software it says can "jailbreak" Apple's new iPhone 3G so that any third-party application may run on the device, CNET reported. The Pwnage 2.0 software reportedly does not "unlock" the iPhone 3G so it can run on rival networks, although CNET reports that a Brazilian blog brought to light a SIM card adapter that can trick the iPhone into thinking it is running on an approved network.

Missouri Man Arrested in Theater for Recording "The Dark Knight"

Kansas City, Mo. - A Missouri man was arrested this weekend for allegedly using a camcorder to capture "The Dark Knight" at a movie theater in Lee's Summit, Missouri, TorrentFreak reported, citing local accounts. Police later searched the Grandview, Mo. home of the 40-year-old suspect and told local news station KCTV they "found other pirated movies on DVD."

Facebook Begins Rolling Out New Site Design

Palo Alto, Calif. - Online social network Facebook on Monday unveiled the first elements of its website redesign, offering users the opportunity to preview and test new features and functionality before they are made available to all of Facebook's 80 million members over the coming days. In development over the past six months, the redesign includes an integration of all of a user's various feeds in a single stream of updates. TechCrunch noted a "Friendfeedization" of the Facebook home page, a nod to the simpler stream aggregation service Friendfeed.

NBC to Air Jimmy Fallon Webisodes as Prelude to Late Night Gig

New York - NBC plans to begin webcasting a series of nightly webisodes in the fall featuring Jimmy Fallon, the "Saturday Night Live" alum who is set to take Conan O'Brien's late night TV slot host next year when O'Brien replaces the retiring Jay Leno, The New York Times reported. SNL producer Lorne Michaels will produce the webisodes, which will be five or ten minutes long and debut nightly at 12:30 ET. "Conan needed time to find his show," Michaels told The Times. "I think this will help Jimmy to do that."

New Media Primetime Emmy Nominations Announced

Los Angeles - Nominations for the Primetime Emmy Awards have been announced, and NewTeeVee highlighted the online video programming that was recognized in the "Special Class Program," "Outstanding Creative Achievement in Interactive Media" and other categories. Most were studio-produced videos, for series including "Battlestar Galactica," "Lost," "Friday Night Lights," "The L Word" and "Project Runway." Also given the nod was "I'm F***ing Matt Damon," the viral video created by Sarah Silverman for former boyfriend Jimmy Kimmel's late night show.

Esquire October Issue to Feature First E Ink Electronic Paper Ad

New York - Hearst's Esquire magazine on Monday announced that its October issue will be the first magazine to incorporate E Ink's electronic paper technology into a mass-produced print product. A two-page ad on the inside cover will feature the Ford Flex Crossover, with words and images scrolling across the flexible electronic paper display.

Yahoo Strikes Deal With Icahn for Three Seats on Board

Sunnyvale, Calif. - Heading off a likely proxy battle, Yahoo (NASD: YHOO) said on Monday that it has reached a settlement with dissident investor Carl Icahn that will give the billionaire a seat on the company's board. Icahn, who owns a 5% stake in the company, will fill a seat, and will recommend nine candidates to fill two other seats.

Take-Two Again Rejects $2 Billion Buyout by Electronic Arts

New York - Video game publisher Take-Two Interactive (NASD: TTWO) on Monday rebuffed Electronic Arts' (NASD: ERTS) fifth extension of its $2 billion offer to buy the company, which now will expire on Aug. 18. To this point, around 15% of Take-Two's shares have been voted in favor of the deal. Take-Two chairman Strauss Zelnick also noted that the company has been in talks with multiple other suitors.
