Clear Channel, Katz Media Launch Digital Radio Network

San Antonio, Texas - Radio giant Clear Channel announced on Monday that it partnered with Katz Media Group to launch what they say is the largest digital radio network, which incorporates independent Internet radio stations with online and mobile streams of AM and FM stations, and counts an audience of nearly 5 million weekly listeners. Along with station streams from major broadcasters Clear Channel, Cumulus, Cox and Emmis, the Katz Online Network will feature Internet streams from providers including Accuradio, Radioio, Digitally Imported and SmoothJazz.com. Ads on the network will be sold by Katz 360 Sales, Clear Channel Online Music & Radio and Premiere Radio Networks.

Washingtonpost.com Adds Online Prediction Tool From Predictify

Washington - Washingtonpost.com has added a new feature allowing site visitors to debate and predict future news events related to politics, sports, business and local issues. The site's newly launched Prediction Center, powered by Silicon Valley-based Predictify, scores and ranks the predictions based on accuracy. The tool then aggregates them into forecasts used on the site. Since its launch in October, Predictify also has partnered with The New York Times, the San Francisco Chronicle, Freakonomics, Mashable and ReadWriteWeb.

Deefhoof Upload Sheet Music to New Song, Encourage Covers

San Francisco - Rock band Deerhoof have posted the sheet music for an unreleased single from their forthcoming album online under a Creative Commons license, and are encouraging fans to record a version of the song themselves and post it to a community site, Wired.com reports. So far, nine versions have been posted to the band's CASH Music site. One fan even went so far as to transcribe the sheet music into MIDI format, and posted the resulting basic sound files online, so that those who don't read music can take a crack at a mix.

RawRip Music Service Offers Artists 100% of Royalties

London - RawRip on Monday debuted the beta version of its music discovery and distribution service, which will offer artists and copyright holders 100% of royalties. The site currently offers around 1 million tracks for free, ad-supported streaming; while songs may be purchased directly from the site, artists may also create their own Rawstores with flexible pricing via a Web widget that can be placed on their websites or any social network page. RawRip also offers a music discovery feature called the Rippler.

Javien to Power Micropayments for BETA Records

McLean, Va. - Javien Digital Payment Solutions, developer of a Web-based platform for managing online and mobile sales, said on Monday that BETA Records, an online community featuring content from independent artists, will use the company's micropayment platform to power its e-commerce activities. Javien's clients also include K2 Network, Garage Games, Ruckus Network, Snocap, FUZZ, Forbes.com and Thomson.

Atlantic Records Launches Fanbase Desktop Application

New York - Warner Music Group's (NYSE: WMG) Atlantic Records on Monday launched Fanbase, an interactive desktop application that includes a music player, chat, and data on Atlantic artists that is pulled from a variety of websites. The application is based on Adobe AIR technology, and uses an integrated player from social music service imeem, chat from Meebo, and videos from YouTube and Brightcove. The download will be available from Atlantic's main website, as well as from the sites of participating artists, including T.I., Simple Plan and Shinedown.

Web Entertainment Network Giant Realm Hits 5.3 Million Users

New York - Giant Realm, an online media company targeting men 18-34, announced on Monday that it now reaches 5.3 million unique visitors in the U.S., according to the latest data from comScore's June 2008 Media Metrix report. According to Google Analytics, Giant Realm currently reaches over 20 million individuals worldwide every month, the company said. Giant Realm shareholders include SoftBank Capital, Comcast Interactive Capital, the William Morris Agency and the Edison Venture Fund.

Gannett Invests in Streaming Video Service Mogulus

McLean, Va. - Expanding on a three-month-old partnership between the companies, Gannett (NYSE: GCI), the publisher of USA Today and 84 other daily papers, said that it has led a new round of funding for New York-based Mogulus, the developer of a live, streaming video service.

FCC Approves XM Satellite Radio Merger with Sirius

Washington - Ending a 16-month regulatory process, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) late Friday approved Sirius Satellite Radio's (NASD: SIRI) $3.3 billion acquisition of XM Satellite Radio (NASD: XMSR), the Associated Press reported. The FCC broke its 2-2 stalemate Friday night when Republican commissioner Deborah Taylor Tate cast the deciding vote in favor of the deal.

WSJ: FCC to Punish Comcast for File-Sharing Interference

Washington - The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is expected this week to announce that Comcast (NASD: CMCSA) violated federal policy when it actively interfered with the file-sharing traffic of some of its broadband customers, agency officials told the Wall Street Journal. Comcast will not be financially penalized, but will be ordered to stop blocking or slowing its subscribers' traffic, and make better disclosures of its network management practices.
