NBC Universal to Stream 2,200 Hours of Olympic Video

New York - NBC Universal (NYSE: GE) announced on Wednesday that it will offer 3,600 hours of Olympics coverage across its flagship NBC and six cable networks, including nearly 2,900 hours of live coverage, and 2,200 hours of streaming Web video. The company said its coverage of the event nearly triples the total hours offered from Athens in 2004. "With 25 sports streamed live at NBCOlympics.com and significant live coverage on our cable platforms and NBC, highlighted by all swimming finals, the biggest nights of gymnastics and beach volleyball live in primetime, the viewer has plenty of options for live coverage," said Dick Ebersol, chairman of NBC Universal Sports & Olympics. Muzak Signs Three-Year, $6.4 Million Deal with AT&T

Fort Mill, S.C. - AT&T (NYSE: T) has announced a three-year, $6.4 million contract with Muzak, a provider of electronic music services to businesses. Under the contract, AT&T will provide services to 40 Muzak locations across the U.S. and support Muzak's nationwide service network of more than 1,300 employees, according to the announcement.

OurStage to Offer Bands Opening Slots at Live Nation Gigs

Los Angeles - OurStage, a site that allows unsigned musicians to upload music and fans to vote for their favorites, has announced the launch of a new Marketplace tool, which will allow concert promoters and venue owners to search the site for new acts to book. As part of the launch, OurStage partnered with Live Nation (NYSE: LYV), which will offer opening band slots at 300 of its events to bands on OurStage.

Alternative Distribution Alliance Promotes Wolk to President

New York - The Alternative Distribution Alliance (ADA), a joint venture set up by Warner Music Group (NYSE: WMG) to distribute and manufacture records owned by independent record labels, announced that it has named Mitchell Wolk as its new president, replacing Andy Allen. Wolk was previously the company's executive vice president, and previously worked at RED Distribution. The ADA serves labels including Sub Pop, Beggars Banquet, Touch And Go, Matador, Merge, Barsuk, Domino, Saddle Creek, Thrill Jockey, and Secretly Canadian.

Digital Distributor INgrooves Details New Label Signings

San Francisco - Digital music distributor INgrooves announced on Wednesday that it has added a "slew" of new artists and labels to its roster, including include Jimmy Buffett (Mailboat Records), John Michael Montgomery (Stringtown Records), K-Tel International (Chubby Checker, Tina Turner, Little Richard), Paid In Full Entertainment (Paul Wall, Chamillionaire), SMC Recordings and Strange Music. San Francisco-based INgrooves recently received a strategic investment from Universal Music Group, which also allowed the major label to use the company's proprietary software platform.

Lulu Partners with Carnegie Mellon's ETC Press

Raleigh, N.C. - Lulu.com, an online marketplace for digital content, announced that it is partnering with the Entertainment Technology Center (ETC) at Carnegie Mellon University "to showcase new creative endeavors launched through the ETC Press, a new academic publishing imprint." Under the arrangement, all ETC Press publications will be released under a Creative Commons license, and will also have associated websites to "encourage and enable a community of collaborative authorship and discussion," according to the announcement. Lulu.com itself has over 380,000 recently published titles, and more than 5,000 new titles added each week, created by people in 80 different countries.

Free Streamer Last.fm Offers Royalties to Unsigned Artists

London - CBS-owned (NYSE: CBS) social music discovery service Last.fm announced on Wednesday the launch of a new artist royalty program, which the company said will give unsigned and independent artists the opportunity to accrue royalties every time their tracks are listened to on the site.

Comcast Inks Network Management Accord With Vonage

Philadelphia - Comcast (NASD: CMCSA), the nation's largest cable TV provider and a provider of broadband service to nearly 13 million customers, announced on Wednesday a collaborative agreement with VoIP provider Vonage, "to ensure that network management techniques are chosen that effectively balance the need to avoid network congestion with the need to ensure that over-the-top VoIP services like Vonage work well for consumers."

AFTRA Ratifies Labor Contract; SAG Set to Respond Thursday

Los Angeles - The American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA), the other large Hollywood performers' union aside from the Screen Actors Guild (SAG), announced on Wednesday that its members have ratified its previously announced labor agreement with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) by a 62.4% margin. The new three-year deal includes a 10% increase in minimum payments, and creates new residuals for paid Internet downloads, ad-supported streaming and other new media usage.
