New York - Research Firm NPD Group reports that the game console industry continues to see large growth year over year, with a 35 percent jump in sales for the year to date, and an impressive 48 percent jump in software sales alone, according to CNET.

Intel Launches Mass Animation Project On Facebook

Los Angeles - Intel Corp. is launching The Mass Animation project in which it will combine computer animation and social networking to produce an original animated short film. According to The Hollywood Reporter (THR), it will be produced and directed by Yair Landau, former vice chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment and president of Sony Pictures Digital.

Report: Czech Portal Seznam On The Market For $900 Million

Foster City CA. - Sony Computer Entertainment is lowering movie title prices for Playstation Portable handheld device in the Universal Media Disc (UMD) format, signing studio deals to license content and making digital copies playable on the handheld system, according to Video Business. Since the DVD market is maturing, the goal is to better establish the PlayStation Portable as a film-viewing device in competition with other video-playing devices such as iPods and iPhones.

Report: T-Mobile First Carrier To Offer A Google Android Powered Smartphone

New York - Deutsche Telekom owned T-Mobile USA will be the first carrier to offer a mobile phone based on Google’s Android software. The company is aiming for a pre-holiday launch, maybe as early as October, according to a report in The New York Times citing unnamed sources.

Buzz Watch: American Idol Has Nothing On Shanghai Super Girl

China has its own equivalent of American Idol called Super Girl. VBS.TV (which I think produce some of the best and smartest Web TV programming right now) has documented the nationally televised phenomenon in a series of webisodes (the first one embedded above). The numbers are mind-boggling: 1.2 billion votes were sent in via the Web, mobile and regular phones during the last season and 420 million viewers tuned in to the finale, making it the most-watched TV program in history. But Shanghai Super Girl also documents how a rather silly TV-show is actually empowering the people through the interactive components of the show. It’s all part of VBS.TV China-centric content around the Olympics.
