Doritos Offers $1 Million Prize in Super Bowl Ad Contest

New York - PepsiCo (NYSE: PEP) plans to offer a $1 million prize to the prospective creator of a Doritos ad for the Super Bowl that beats all of the other ads in USA Today's Super Bowl ad rankings, The Wall Street Journal reports. PepsiCo ran a similar user-generated Doritos ad contest for the Super Bowl two years ago, which generated a reported $36 million in free publicity. The Journal noted that Anheuser-Busch has won the USA Today Super Bowl ad poll every year for the past ten years.

Alltel Taps nuTsie for Mobile Access to iTunes Playlists

Little Rock, Ark. - Mobile network operator Alltel Wireless announced on Wednesday that it has added a mobile music service from nuTsie that will let subscribers listen to playlists from their iTunes libraries on their phones. Available for $4.99 per month or $19.99 annually, the nuTsie service also allows subscribers to listen to other nuTsie users' iTunes playlists.

Discovery Adds Nine YouTube Channels

Silver Spring, Md. - Discovery Communications (NASD: DISCK) said on Wednesday that it has launched nine new channels on Google's (NASD: GOOG) YouTube video service, featuring clips from its stable of networks that include Discovery Channel, TLC and Animal Planet. The company also plans to introduce a series of targeted international channels that will showcase localized and native-language content.

Invision.TV Launches Internet Video Program Guide

Bethesda, Md. - Invision.TV has announced the launch of its Web-based interactive program guide for Internet video. Invision's application indexes and organizes videos from a variety of sites, helping users to find content based on their personal interests. The company also has launched a Facebook application, available at a link below, as well as a new "2008 Election" channel.

MySpace Music to Launch Tonight; EMI, Some Indies Sign On

Los Angeles - News Corp.'s (NYSE: NWS) MySpace announced that it will launch its long-awaited new music service at 9 P.M. Pacific time tonight, and has signed both holdout major label EMI and a number of independents to its joint venture with the record labels. Along with EMI, Sony BMG, Warner Music and Universal Music, MySpace Music will allow free streaming and the creation of unlimited playlists featuring songs from artists represented by independent digital music distributors The Orchard, ADA, Red, Fontana and Caroline.

Bush Admininistration Against New Copyright Powers at Justice

Washington -The Bush administration's Justice Dept. has weighed in against proposed legislation that would expand the agency's powers so that it could prosecute civil copyright infringement cases, Wired.com reported. "Civil copyright enforcement has always been the responsibility and prerogative of private copyright holders, and U.S. law already provides them with effective legal tools to protect their rights," reads a letter sent by the DOJ to bill sponsors Sens. Patrick Leahy and Arlen Specter.

MySpace, PayPal Unveil Charity Fundraising Widget

New York - A coalition of technology and entertainment companies on Wednesday announced the creation of Arts+Labs, a new advocacy group that "aims to ensure that artists, creators and innovators can safely share their works through new online distribution channels with confidence that their right to earn fair compensation for their creativity is respected." Founding members include AT&T (NYSE: T), Viacom (NYSE: VIA), NBC Universal (NYSE: GE), Cisco (NASD: CSCO), Microsoft (NASD: MSFT) and the Songwriters Guild of America.
