China Unicom Begins Selling iPhone Sans Wi-Fi

Beijing - China Unicom has begun selling Apple's (NASD: AAPL) iPhone in China -- albeit without the key feature of Wi-Fi connectivity, Reuters reported. The iPhone is now available from 2,000 Unicom retail stores; the company hopes to sell 5 million in three years, according to Chinese news reports cited by Reuters. A company spokesman told Reuters the company expects its next batch of iPhones to include Wi-Fi.

Apple Breaks Palm Pre Sync with iTunes for Third Time

San Francisco - Apple (NASD: AAPL) has broken the Palm (NASD: PALM) Pre's ability to sync directly with iTunes, as if it were an iPhone, for the third time. The new 9.0.2 iTunes software update removes the feature. Palm had complained to the USB Implementers Forum that Apple was misusing the technology to lock out competitors back in August, but the standards body ruled in Apple's favor, and said that Palm may in fact be in violation of its terms.

Survey: More Firms Planning to Reverse Salary, Hiring Freezes

Santa Clara, Calif. - ChangYou.com (NASD: CYOU), a Chinese online game developer whose shares trade on the Nasdaq, said that it has launched a U.S. subsidiary in Santa Clara, California, with plans to launch its online games in Asia to American gamers. The company said that its first U.S. release, "Dragon Oath," will launch open beta Nov. 5. The title, which has run in Asia for over three years, has over 75 million registered players and 910,000 concurrent users.

EPIX Movie Channel Launches on Verizon FiOS TV Friday

New York - Verizon (NYSE: VZ) will launch the multi-platform pay-TV movie channel EPIX on its FiOS TV digital TV service on Friday, with a $9.99 per month price tag. EPIX, a joint venture between Viacom (NYSE: VIA), Paramount Pictures, MGM and Lionsgate, aims to eventually become a pay-TV movie channel as well, but to date has not announced any carriage deals.

Funny or Die to Launch Dedicated YouTube Channel

San Francisco - Funny or Die, the Web comedy studio backed by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay, plans to launch its own YouTube (NASD: GOOG) channel next month, COO Mitch Galbraith said at Digital Media Wire's Digital Media Conference West in San Francisco, NewTeeVee reported. The company, which had previously operated a standalone site with an embeddable player, also has plans to produce a TV show for HBO and a feature film.

Qtrax Expanding Ad-Supported Download Service to Asia Pacific

New York - Qtrax, an ad-supported song download service, plans to launch in multiple markets in the Asia Pacific region yet this year, including Australia and New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia, Hong Kong, China and Taiwan. The company added that it will expand to other territories in the new year.

Report: Netflix Streaming Also Coming to Nintendo Wii

New York - Netflix (NASD: NFLX) will make its on-demand streaming of movies and TV episodes available on the Nintendo Wii, joining the recent addition of Sony's (NYSE: SNE) PlayStation 3 and previous exclusive streaming partner, Microsoft's (NASD: MSFT) Xbox 360, according to StreamingMedia.com analyst Dan Rayburn.
