- The Chicago Sun-Times provided live blog coverage from yesterday's hearing on
the proposed Ticketmaster-Live Nation merger before the House Judiciary
Committee's Subcommittee on Courts and Competition Policy. Among the highlights
was Chairman Hank Johnson's (D-Ga.) revelation that Ticketmaster is again allegedly
shunting customers looking to purchase face value tickets on Ticketmaster.com to
its TicketsNow secondary ticketing auction site -- this time for Leonard Cohen
concerts as opposed to Bruce Springsteen. "There is a risk that ticket
prices will increase and consumers will be harmed by this merger," Johnson
said.

- The New York Times will debut a local neighborhood blog network next week, which
will cover "cultural events, bar and restaurant openings, real estate,
arts, fashion, health, [and] social concerns," according to an email sent
to Brownstoner.com republished by TechCrunch. The two pilot blogs will cover Fort Greene
and Clinton Hill in Brooklyn, and Milburn, Maplewood
and South Orange in New Jersey.
Jim Schachter, editor for digital initiatives at The New York Times, confirmed
the plan for TechCrunch, adding that the pilot blogs will be staffed by Times
reporters, and "expect to sell ads to local merchants using our telesales
and self-serve ad solution."

- The Slate Group, an online publishing unit of The Washington Post that
produces Slate, The Root, The Big Money and Foreign Policy, on Friday named
Peggy White as the publisher of Double X, a women's online magazine launching
later this year. White most recently served as the general manager of Yahoo
Finance, and previously was the vice president and general manager of
BusinessWeek online and vice president of sales and business development at
MSNBC.com. The company said that Double X will offer women's perspectives on
issues such as politics, culture and family. Slate already has hired Emily
Bazelon, Meghan O'Rourke and Hanna Rosin as editors of the new publication,
which will be based in New York.

Calif. - Graphics chipmaker
Nvidia on Friday named David White as its executive vice president and CFO. He
succeeds Marvin Burkett, who announced his plans to retire in March 2008. White
most recently served for five years as the executive vice president and CFO at
Sanmina-SCI, and previously spent seven years as the CFO of Asyst Technologies.
Burkett, who has been the company's CFO for more than six years, is expected to
continue serving as a senior advisor.

- Publisher Hearst Corp. plans to launch its own wireless e-book reader device
for reading newspapers, magazines and other content later this year, entering a
nascent market currently also occupied by Amazon's (NASD: AMZN) Kindle and Sony (NYSE: SNE) Reader,
Fortune reported, citing "industry insiders." Hearst's device is
expected to sport a much larger screen than the Kindle -- about the size of a
sheet of paper -- and will initially be offered in black-and-white with color
to be introduced in later iterations.

charging for online access to its Newsday newspaper, which the company acquired

San Francisco - Casual games developer PlayFirst, creator of the "Diner Dash" franchise, on Thursday named Mari Baker as CEO and Jim Wandrey as chief financial officer. Baker was previously CEO of Navigenics and before than president of BabyCenter, while Wandrey served as CFO of Telephia. Baker replaces PlayFirst co-founder John Welch, widely regarded as one of the leaders of the casual game revolution and the mind behind the success of the "Diner Dash" franchise.
