Poll: Sweden's Pirate Party Will Win EU Parliament Seat

Stockholm, Sweden - Sweden's Pirate Party, formed in the wake of law enforcement actions against file-sharing networks there, is expected to garner 5.1% of votes in the upcoming European Union election, according to a poll conducted by a Swedish newspaper, TorrentFreak reported. If the results of the poll are duplicated in the actual elections, the Pirate Party would get a set in the EU Parliament. "This poll confirms our recent phenomenal growth in support, and says there will be pirates in Brussels after this election," Pirate Party leader Rick Falkvinge told TorrentFreak.

Seattle - RealNetworks (NASD: RNWK) said on Thursday that its Rhapsody digital music service has partnered with rock band Green Day to promote its upcoming album, "21st Century Breakdown." The deal will see Rhapsody get a stream of the entire album a week before its May 15 release, in addition to exclusive tracks for Rhapsody subscribers, and a Green Day-themed Rhapsody TV ad campaign that will run across Rhapsody partner MTV Networks' (NYSE: VIA) channels.

Bath, England - The Filter, the personalized recommendation engine firm founded by musician Peter Gabriel, said on Thursday that it has partnered with Belgian online DVD rental service DVDPost. The deal will bring Filter-powered personalized movie recommendations to DVDPost customers, who can choose from a library of 22,000 titles.

Los Angeles - Confirming earlier reports, Disney (NYSE: DIS) announced on Thursday that it has signed a deal to take an equity stake in, and provide full-length TV episodes to Hulu, the video website joint venture between News Corp. (NYSE: NWS) and NBC Universal (NYSE: GE). Coming to Hulu will be shows from ABC, SOAPnet and Disney Channel, including "Grey's Anatomy," "LOST," "Jimmy Kimmel Live," "The View" and "General Hospital."

Report: Facebook in Talks on Funding; Seeks $5-$6B Valuation

New York - Facebook has held "valuation discussions" with a range of potential investors, including Providence Equity Partners, General Atlantic, Bain Capital and Kohlberg Kravis Roberts, The New York Post reported, citing "multiple sources close to or involved in the situation." The sources said Facebook is interested in new funding at a valuation of $5 billion to $6 billion, but the private equity firms it has been in talks with see the firm as being worth more in the range of $2 billion to $3 billion.

Reston, Va. - Hulu, the video site joint venture between NBC Universal (NYSE: GE) and News Corp. (NYSE: NWS), overtook Yahoo (NASD: YHOO) to become the third most-popular Web video site in March, according to Web audience measurement firm comScore. Hulu served 380 million videos last month, to Yahoo's 335 million. Google (NASD: GOOG) and YouTube still dwarfed all competitors, with 5.9 billion video views, with News Corp.-owned sites including MySpace taking second place with 437 million views.

Los Angeles - Entertainment and pop culture blog network Buzz Media said on Wednesday that it has named Alan Citron as its new president. Citron was the founding general manager at celebrity news site TMZ, and before that was founding president of MusicNet and of Ticketmaster Online. Former Buzz president and company founder Anthony Batt will become chief creative officer. Buzz recently laid off 20% of its workforce, and this week cut the staff at its Idolator music blog to one.
