elvisstampThe filmmaker Adam Muskiewicz is offering $3 million on his website ElvisWanted.com to anyone who can provide him with proof that Elvis is alive. The reward is part of a creative marketing plan for Muskiewicz’s film entitled The Truth About Elvis, scheduled for release in August 2007, the 30th anniversary of Elvis Presley’s death.

Muskiewicz’s film is based on the notion that Elvis Presley’s death is a hoax – one of the biggest myths in the history of pop culture. Does it have any merit? What are the facts behind it? Why has this myth survived for so many years? What do Elvis Presley’s closest friends think about the myth? These are some of the questions the movie aims to address. It features interviews with authors, experts, reporters, doctors, conspiracy theorists and people that were close to Elvis.

The website also encourages super-distribution in the form of asking Elvis fans to help the filmmaker out by spreading the word about the film and the $3 Million reward. Any fans that volunteer will receive a poster and stickers in the mail. They are then asked to display them in high-traffic areas or give them away to other Elvis fans.

A poll on film’s website shows that a majority of Elvis fans – 2,928 voters - actually believe that he is dead. But almost that many – 2,294 voters - believe, or perhaps hope, that he is alive, while 1,506 voters indicate that they think that Elvis is “maybe” alive.

The reward is backed up by the London oddsmaker William Hill who currently is giving the odds of 1000-to-1 that Elvis is alive.
