Buzz Watch: Jesus Camp

Jesus CampThe documentary feature film "Jesus Camp" opened on Friday in New York and will open in 20 more cities nationally in the beginning of October. It is an award winning production that depicts evangelical Christian children at a religious summer camp. After the trailer and a few clips were posted on YouTube, the blogosphere is on fire about it. Perhaps most controversial is the camp founder Pastor Becky Fischer, who proudly compares her work to the indoctrination of young boys by extremist Muslims in Pakistan and elsewhere. For example, she shouts to the children in one scene of the documentary: "This is war! Are you part of it or not?" In the trailer, we can also see children cheer when asked if they'd be willing to give up their lives for Jesus, pray over a cardboard cutout of President Bush and cry as they plead for an end to abortion.
