The Wall Street Journal reports that AMD announced plans to invest $2.5 billion over the next three years to expand and improve chip production at its factories in Dresden, Germany. The investment is to provide more manufacturing capacity in order to take a larger market share from Intel, in addition to reducing production costs. The article mentions that, though AMD has been winning converts among computer makers, the chip-maker has lagged Intel in the area of manufacturing processes.
