The Wall St. Journal gives an expose on Will Wright, the creator of The Sims, and his next game project for EA – Spore, where players start as mere blobs and later evolve into members of space-dwelling societies. Players will be able to create their own content, such as creatures, planets, and civilizations, with the best automatically showing up in the games of other Spore players. Analysts estimate that the game will cost $20M to develop. Spore is due to be released in 2007, with an approximate price of $50.Mentioned are some of Wright’s creative influences behind Spore, including: Powers of Ten, a short film made by Charles and Ray Eames; The Day the Earth Stood Still; War of the Worlds; Star Trek; and 2001: A Space Odyssey. Other inspirations include: the Drake equation, a probability of extraterrestrial life in the Milky Way galaxy; The Like of the Cosmos, and The Anthropic Cosmological Principle.
