Report: Discovery Cuts 84 Jobs in Education Division

Silver Spring, Md. - Discovery Communications, the media company behind such cable channels as The Discovery Channel, TLC and Animal Planet, has cut 84 jobs from its education division, The Washington Post reported. The two-year-old division, which offers digital video and multimedia-based learning services to schools, will be left with about 200 employees.

Discovery Communications Launches Daily Video Webcasts

Silver Spring, Md. - Discovery Communications on Thursday announced the launch of a Discovery News service that will provide daily video webcasts on topics related to science, nature, health and travel. The site's first scoop was news of paleontologist Jack Horner's discovery of a baby triceratops skull in Montana. In addition to the video news webcasts, Discovery's new media initiatives include Discovery Mobile, a 24-hour mobile programming network designed specifically for portable platforms, set to launch in the third quarter of 2006.
