DMW’s CEO & Publisher provides a wrap-up of the top stories of the week. Who’s hot, who’s not and what’s the industry buzz?

In the days following Microsoft’s (NASD: MSFT) announcement of its unsolicited $44.6 billion takeover bid for Yahoo (NASD: YHOO), much of the news focused on the battle between Google and Microsoft to color the other’s motives as anti-competitive. As reports surfaced that Yahoo may try to avoid being acquired by Microsoft by giving control of its search advertising to Google in exchange for a large revenue share (although nothing has made public by either Google or Yahoo on this), Microsoft reportedly began lobbying government officials to block any such deal between the two on antitrust grounds setting the stage for what is likely to be a long and public battle between Google and Microsoft over control of the Internet.

DMW’s CEO & Publisher provides a wrap-up of the top stories of the week. Who’s hot, who’s not and what’s the industry buzz?

There was no shortage of news for the week of Jan. 21-25. The biggest story: The Federal Reserve lowered the benchmark federal funds rate by three-quarters of a percentage point to 3.5%, its lowest level since September 2005, but the Fed’s actions couldn’t stop an already shaky stock market from continuing its downward spiral. After a sharp mid-week increase on news of the rate cut, the DMW100 ended slightly lower on the week.

Authored by Ned Sherman on October 26, 2007 - 1:16pm.
Dear Readers,
This weekend we are moving to new servers to keep up with the increasing popularity of our news and community site. Since the move involves a DNS change, there will be a couple of days where people in some parts of the world may see the old site while others see the new one. There might also be times when the site is down due to the move. Please bare with us during this process, which is part of our continuing efforts to improve the user experience at dmwmedia.com.
Many thanks,
Ned Sherman, CEO & Publisher, Digital Media Wire, Inc.

Mobile Games Leaders Converge to Discuss Industry's Future

Authored by Ned Sherman on July 11, 2007 - 3:12pm.
Yesterday, we hosted our first annual Mobile Games Insider, a half-day invite-only event for 150 top games and mobile executives.  The event was held at a private beach club in Santa Monica, CA, just down the street from the new E3. The sole focus was on the mobile games industry, which despite $3.3 billion in revenue was not given any dedicated time or space at E3 this year. We felt that this event was needed and warranted by the simple fact that the mobile games industry is an industry here to stay. Moreover, when you combine 3 billion handsets worldwide with the increasing desire for entertainment anywhere, anytime, it isn't hard to see that this industry could really take off. As Lucy Hood, CEO of Jamba, simply put it in her keynote, "the mobile gamer is anyone."
