Minneapolis - The University of Minnesota, along with 11 other Midwestern universities that comprise the Committee on Institutional Cooperation, announced that they have partnered with Google to digitize up to 10 million books as part of the Google Books Library Project. Other schools in the group include the University of Michigan, University of Chicago and Indiana University. "Google's vast capacity for digitization far exceeds that of any of the participating institutions alone, making this effort a true partnership that reveals the historical depth of these collections from the heartland," said Wendy Pradt Lougee, head librarian at the University of Minnesota. Los Angeles - New Medium Enterprises, the developer of a red-laser-based HD disc technology called HD VMD, announced on Wednesday that Icon Film Distribution will release movies on HD VMD in Australia and New Zealand. Icon titles available at launch will include "The Queen," "Apocalypto," "The Descent" and "Gosford Park." New York - 2K Sports, a unit of game publisher Take-Two Interactive, said on Wednesday that it has signed former NFL players John Elway, Jerry Rice and Barry Sanders to grace the cover of its "All-Pro Football 2K8" for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, slated for release this summer.
