London - Nokia has announced plans to introduce the next generation of its N-Gage mobile phone game platform in September, with publishers Electronic Arts and Gameloft committed to creating games for the new release, GamesIndustry.biz reported. Recent reports have speculated that Nokia plans to integrate N-Gage technology into a series of phones, rather than releasing another dedicated handset. "One of the main events for us is GDC in San Francisco in early March and that's really where you can expect some announcements," Jaako Kaidesoja, head of Nokia's games effort, told Mobile Entertainment magazine. Seattle - RealNetworks said on Monday that more than four million users have downloaded its streaming video ad-enabled casual games since June 2006. Instead of the typical 60-minute free trial offered for casual games, Real offers games for free if consumers agree to view video ads every 20 minutes, between levels during natural breaks of the game. The company said the in-game ad format, powered by Eyeblaster, has generated an approximate 10% click-through rate and 74% full video completion rate for its demographic, the majority of whom are women over 30. Santa Clara, Calif. - Mercora, an online radio network with over 100,000 user-programmed channels, announced on Monday a partnership with online pop culture magazine PopMatters, on a program to provide promotion for indie music artists. The Listen Up program offers labels "premier streaming media placements" within both PopMatters' editorial content and media center, and in Mercora's music channels; labels will also receive revenue through SoundExchange. The companies said labels initially participating in the Listen Up program include Kill Rock Stars, Ninja Tune, Thrill Jockey and Warp.
