New York - Online advertising technology and services firm DoubleClick on Tuesday announced the launch of its Live Streaming video advertising service, which allows advertisers to broadcast live events to users through rich media ads. New Line Cinema was the first to use the new technology, when it filmed movie patrons at a live event in Washington, and then edited and broadcast the clips live through ads for the film "The Number 23" on sites including AOL, Yahoo and MSN. Los Angeles - Video-sharing service provider Veoh Networks on Tuesday announced its official launch, after a year of beta testing. The service includes automatic syndication and reporting features for video publishers; a downloadable player that can download videos from across the Web; and a peer-to-peer delivery network that lets publishers upload videos of any length or file size for distribution. Publishers can choose to either offer their videos through pay-per-view, pay-to-own, or subscription-based models, or else generate revenue through ads sold either by Veoh or themselves. Los Angeles-based Veoh attracts about 520,000 monthly visitors, according to Nielsen NetRatings. [more..]
Los Angeles - Online DVD rental service Netflix announced on Tuesday that its Red Envelope Entertainment division has acquired the worldwide rights to produce and distribute a new documentary on musician Tony Bennett. The company said Clint Eastwood will serve as executive producer on the project, while Bruce Ricker will direct. [more..]
Washington - NPR announced that it has added a new slate of podcasts to its 390-title directory, including a full podcast for its "Fresh Air" program from WHYY Philadelphia; its first video podcast, for KCRW's "Morning Becomes Eclectic"; "Car Talk Call of the Week"; and a new podcast from "Day to Day" contributor Xeni Jardin. In addition, the company said that it has upgraded the audio fidelity for its music-related podcasts, from 64K mono to 128K stereo. San Mateo, Calif. - Independent TV production company Reveille ("The Office," "Ugly Betty") announced on Tuesday that it has partnered with Akimbo to make its series available for download and viewing through the Akimbo IPTV video-on-demand service. Atlanta - UVuMobile, a developer of mobile broadcast technologies, on Tuesday announced the beta launch of its Mobilecasting platform that delivers interactive audio and video to mobile devices. The company also said it partnered with Skyward Mobile to develop uVuRadio, a mobile subscription service that will deliver major market and nationally syndicated radio programming to cell phones and other devices. Calgary, Canada - StumbleUpon, a developer of search technology that recommends sites based on a community of nearly 2 million users' interests, has announced the creation of a new interface designed specifically for the Nintendo Wii. Already available for Firefox and Internet Explorer, the StumbleUpon service now also supports the version of the Opera browser used by the Wii for Internet browsing. The service will allow Wii users to search for Web video content and view it on TV through the game console. [more..]

Santa Monica, Calif. - Publisher Activision and game developer id Software on Tuesday announced plans to publish "Enemy Territory: Quake Wars" for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 later this year. The team-based, first person action title is being developed for PS3 by Nerve Software, and for Xbox 360 by Z-Axis; Activision and id already announced that the PC version of the title is being developed by Splash Damage. Seoul, South Korea - Korean online game developer Webzen announced on Tuesday an agreement with The9, to publish its massively multiplayer game "Huxley" in China. Webzen expects to gain an estimated $35 million from the deal, which it says is the largest for a Korean game developer for a single game in a single country. Redwood City, Calif. - Electronic Arts said on Tuesday that it partnered with MySpace on a contest that will offer unsigned the bands a chance at a Virgin Records demo recording contract and placement in an upcoming "Burnout" video game. The Burnout Bandslam contest will accept entries through MySpace, and award one winning band each from the U.S. and Europe with a demo contract and placement in the video game. [more..]
