Toronto, Canada - JumpTV, an Internet TV network featuring international news and entertainment channels targeted at expatriates, announced that it has signed an agreement to add its programming to Joost, the streaming TV service launched by the creators of Kazaa and Skype. Toronto-based JumpTV offers consumers a selection of 270 channels from 70 countries on a subscription basis. The company will initially offer free Spanish-language TV channels from Chile, Colombia and Peru, as well as an Arabic-language comedy channel on Joost. [more..]
Los Angeles - Hollywood movie studio MGM plans to launch a high-definition channel for cable, satellite and telco TV providers by the end of the year, TVWeek.com reported. The studio says 1,200 of its 4,100 films, and hundreds of hours of its television shows have been formatted for HD. [more..]
Herndon, Va. - Digitization firm Apex Publishing said that it has been chosen by the National Library of Australia to support a major newspaper digitization program that will launch later this year. Under the deal, the library will use Apex's services to build a database covering 1803-1954 using one major newspaper from each state and territory in Australia. The library will then launch a new online service in early 2008, allowing users to search the newspapers and view the content free of charge. [more..]
Redwood City, Calif. - Electronic Arts said on Friday that it has signed former Boise State University quarterback and Tostitos Fiesta Bowl MVP Jared Zabransky as the cover athlete for its "NCAA Football 08" game, scheduled for release this summer. Los Angeles - Vivendi Games' Sierra Entertainment said on Friday that it will publish a version of "Scarface: The World Is Yours," based on the classic Universal Pictures gangster film, for the Nintendo Wii this summer.
