Orlando, Fla. - Viacom on Wednesday debuted a number of new mobile media offerings across its MTV, Comedy Central and other properties, with MTV Networks announcing that Pepsi and Intel have signed on as charter sponsors of its mobile programming. MTV Networks also expanded its partnership with Sprint; the carrier now offers 14 live streaming and VOD mobile channels. Viacom's Comedy Central, meanwhile, introduced a new 40-level mobile game called "South Park 10: The Game," developed by RealNetworks' mobile game studio. [more..]
Washington - Yahoo's news division announced on Wednesday that it has partnered with The McClatchy Company to offer international news coverage from McClatchy foreign correspondents based in Iraq, the Middle East, China and Latin America. Washington - XM Satellite Radio, a provider of satellite radio services to more than 7.6 million subscribers, said on Wednesday that it has expanded its NavTraffic satellite traffic data service to six new markets. The service is now available in 50 major North American markets. The service feeds data on incidents, such as accidents and road construction, directly to a vehicle's GPS navigation system. [more..]
Burbank, Calif. - TVN Entertainment, a provider of video-on-demand programming to cable, satellite and telco TV services, on Wednesday announced the launch of Caught On Demand, its seventh new VOD channel. The channel will feature real-life video gathered from security cameras, police cruiser cameras and personal cell phones, organized into segments 5-7 minutes long with titles like "Amazing Crashes" and "Dumbest Criminals." New York - BrainMedia on Wednesday introduced its music and video delivery platform for mobile devices, which is slated to go live in North America next month. Built for Qualcomm's BREW, the service will initially feature music discovery and full-track downloads, eventually expanding to include community features, dynamic radio generation and delivery of streaming and video content. New York-based BrainMedia's service is based on its Neural Encoding Model (NEM) codec, which the company says creates near CD-quality audio for ultra low bit-rate mobile distribution. [more..]
Mountain View, Calif. - Fliptrack on Wednesday introduced its online service that allows users to create personal music videos, and announced a partnership with Nettwerk Music Group on a promotion that lets users create a music video for the Barenaked Ladies. Mountain View, Calif.-based Fliptrack's service asks users to pick a song from its library; a wizard interface then automatically matches user photos to song rhythms. Tokyo - Japanese game developers Sega and Nintendo announced on Wednesday that they are collaborating on a joint title, "Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games." Featuring renditions of the official venues of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, the game for Nintendo Wii and DS will be published in the fall of 2007 by Sega across Europe and North America, and by Nintendo in Japan.
