Bangkok - Google's YouTube is working with Thailand to block access to videos that mock the country's beloved monarch, Reuters reported. Last week, Thailand blocked the entire YouTube site after a user posted a crude video lampooning the country's King Bhumibol Adulyadej. Since the account of the user who created that video was closed, several more offensive videos have appeared. "[YouTube] said a more effective way would be to block certain pages not to be seen in Thailand," Sitthichai Pookaiyaudom, Thailand's communications minister, told Reuters. Los Angeles - News Corp.'s MySpace online social network on Tuesday announced the debut of MySpace Trailer Park, a page on the site that will host premieres of new movie trailers. Launched in conjunction with Lionsgate, the first trailer to premiere on the site will be for the film studio's "Good Luck Chuck," due out on Aug. 24. Trailers will premiere on Trailer Park 3-6 months prior to a film's theatrical release, and a few months prior to the launch of a film's MySpace profile page. [more..]
Los Angeles - China Film Group, the country's largest state-owned media company, announced on Tuesday that it has partnered with Hollywood-based digital media services firm Crest Digital, on a joint venture that will distribute entertainment and technology software via digital platforms in China. The partnership will provide secure manufacturing and distribution of DVD and CD media via a new facility outside Beijing, and also focus on emerging platforms including VOD, IPTV, Internet and mobile. New York - Major record label Warner Music Group announced that it has licensed music videos for distribution on Joost, the peer-to-peer streaming video service launched by the creators of Kazaa and Skype. Under the deal, Warner Music will share revenue from advertising placed on various Joost channels featuring content from WMG labels and artists. Los Angeles - Break.com, a male-focused entertainment site, announced on Tuesday an agreement with TV producer Endemol USA ("Deal or No Deal," "Big Brother"), to produce original content for Break.com. "Record Breakers," Endemol's first original series commissioned by Break.com, is set to debut this summer. Portland, Ore. - CD Baby, an online retailer of CDs from independent musicians, announced on Tuesday an agreement with Snocap, the digital music registry and e-commerce services provider. Under the deal, the more than 130,000 artists using Portland, Ore.-based CD Baby to sell their CDs will be able to create Snocap MyStores and sell their music online in digital format from sites like MySpace and ReverbNation.com. Reston, Va. - Cinea, a unit of Dolby Laboratories that develops content-protection technologies, on Tuesday introduced a new watermarking technology for video-on-demand content the company says will make the unique serialization of video streams easy and affordable. Virginia-based Cinea said the VOD watermarks can be deployed without using additional server power, involve no change in the distribution infrastructure, and require no updates to existing devices.
