Future of Television Press Coverage

The following is a selection of links to press coverage of last week’s fourth annual Future of Television Forum, produced by Digital Media Wire, The Consumer Electronics Association and NYU Stern School of Business. For example, PC Magazine noted that the event this year was “concerned less with short-term problems and more with long-term goals, the conference was heavy on ideas.” If you did not have the opportunity to attend, these articles report on some of those ideas about where the industry is headed:

Future of Television Forum 2006

A Thank You to Future of Television Forum Participants

Dear Future of Television Forum Participants,
Thank you all for participating in the Future of Television Conference. We are really happy to have met a record number of 479 people who attended, with many staying all the way through the last panel on Friday afternoon! All of us on the Digital Media Wire team certainly appreciate the time and effort that everyone put into making the fourth annual Future of Television Forum the biggest and most successful event so far. We also want to particularly thank our co-hosts: The Consumer Electronics Association and the NYU Stern School of Business.

During the extended two-day event, many of the hottest issues, technologies and applications in the television, Internet and mobile video industry were discussed. We also got a reality check from big networks, where top executives from ABC, CBS and NBC gave the audience an update of what they have found to work and not work on new platforms, as well as on traditional television.

We very much look forward to hosting the conference again in New York City on November 15 and 16, 2007. To view editorial coverage and photos of the event, click here. We also welcome your ideas on how to grow the event in 2007. Please send your ideas to: television@digitalmediawire.com.

Finally, we hope to see you at our Digital Music Forum East in New York City on February 27 and 28.

Until then, keep updated on the latest industry news at www.dmwmedia.com and stay ahead!

Sincerely yours,
Ned Sherman
Co-Chair, the Future of Television Forum
CEO & Publisher, Digital Media Wire, Inc.

Future of Television Forum 2006

IBM’s Saul Berman Says “There Will Be Warfare Between Content Owners and Distributors”

He gave the audience a captivating look into the future of television, based on IBM Business Consulting’s latest research. One of his points was that copyright issues that we have started to see in the case of YouTube are far from resolved:

“We see that there will be conflict or even warfare between content owners and distributors.”

Future of Television Forum 2006

YouTube's Best of Show TV Commercials

Embedded below are thirteen (mostly) stellar TV commercials mentioned today on David Pogue's blog today, which the NY Times columnist discovered via Digg.com. In addition to Pogue's observation that these ads can serve as examples on how ad agencies can prevent viewers from instinctively bypassing commercials, I think these ads can also serve as much needed creative inspiration for creators of TV shows and movies. Though not listed, two of my favorite "TV Shows" are commercials from Jack-in-the-Box and ESPN - now that's great entertainment value without having to risk wasting between 30 to 90 minutes! Both properties often offer commercials more engaging than the programs they sponsor.

Regarding the list below my favorites include: Honda "Mousetrap"; Carlton Beer; and Sony Bravia (which conjures many fond memories of walks with my wife through the streets of San Francisco).

My least favorite was Folgers' Happy Morning, as I found the happy yellow people to be utterly annoying. Click, watch, and enjoy!

Miller Beer Domino Commercial

Future of Television Forum 2006
