New York - Baker Capital, a venture capital firm focused on digital communications, announced on Tuesday that it has led a $48.8 million investment in Finland-based digital TV provider Digi TV Plus. Finland plans to transition from analog to digital TV broadcasting in August 2007. Digi TV Plus plans to launch its PlusTV digital terrestrial TV network in November, and will be the exclusive distributor of MTV in one million Finnish terrestrial households. Other channels will be added as the company nears its full commercial launch in late August 2007. "In connection with the digitalization of television, the selection of channels available to all domestic households will increase significantly," said PlusTV CEO Vesa Mars. "The change will be felt the most in terrestrial households, which until now have had a much smaller selection to choose from compared to households with access to cable." New York-based Baker Capital's other investments include Sand Video and Canal+ Television.
