Bandai Introduces Tamagotchi Virtual Pets for Mobile Phones
Cypress, Calif. - Bandai America, a unit of Japanese game publisher Namco Bandai, announced on Tuesday the launch of a mobile phone version of its Tamagotchi virtual pet. First introduced in 1996, the Tamagotchi virtual pet has sold more than 40 million units worldwide, including 12 million in the U.S. The mobile phone application, available for $2.99 per month or $5.99 for unlimited use, challenges owners to keep up with feedings, bedding down and other day-to-day needs of their virtual pets.
