Director of Marketing - Picateers - San Mateo, CA

The Director of Marketing is responsible for developing and executing Picateers direct marketing acquisition programs and installed base marketing programs. He/she will drive customer acquisition via direct mail, Google ads, telemarketing and user-get-user programs. In addition, he/she will work with Marketing Managers, Product Management, Graphic Design, School Relations and Development in the creation of web site landing pads for Google ads and other promotions. As this is an early stage, pre-IPO start-up, he/she will actively "do" marketing, and must love direct mail, creating online ad campaigns, tracking and analyzing business metrics, creating promotions and have experience doing this. He/she will also develop strategies for increasing revenue from the installed base. Moreover, the Marketing Director will analyze site and business metrics to make forecasts and propose marketing strategy. In addition, he/she will develop customer messaging and brand communication strategies for the web site, collateral, advertising and promotions.

Responsibilities
  1. Manage direct mail, Google ads and telesales customer acquisition efforts.
  2. Develop user-get-user programs.
  3. Develop and measure the effectiveness of programs and promotions to drive revenue from the installed base.
  4. Analyze site traffic, business metrics, campaign effectiveness, and customer segmentation to make forecasts and recommend marketing strategy.
  5. Develop and implement effective customer messaging and brand communication strategies for the web site, collateral, advertising and promotions.
  6. Develop processes and guidelines to ensure consistency in messaging and branding across all points of customer contact.
  7. Design market research efforts to better understand customer's wants and needs and to better create messages for them.
  8. Track competitive activity.
  9. Manage and hire Marketing Managers.
  10. Be a champion and catalyst for making the customer the center of all that we do.
Education
BS or BA. MBA strongly preferred.

Required Experience
  • 5-10 yrs Marketing experience in a software or internet company. Preference for "consumer" software/internet experience. We will also consider those with traditional brand management experience.
  • Several years experience developing and implementing direct marketing programs for a consumer audience.
  • Proven track record driving user acquisition.
  • Hands-on knowledge of direct mail.
  • Proven experience managing people.
  • Demonstrated ability to create brand and customer messaging.
  • Track record of leadership.
  • Experience with internet advertising campaigns.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams.
  • Love of photos and photo products!
Desirable Experience

Fast-paced start-up experience, market research, experience telemarketing to drive sales, experience creating and marketing products to schools and parents.
