Report: 24 Million Americans Will be Paying for Mobile Video in 2010Authored by Mark Hefflinger on July 25, 2006 - 1:43pm.
Framingham, Mass. - The number of U.S. mobile subscribers paying for mobile TV or video content is expected to grow from 7 million this year to 24 million by 2010, according to a report from market research firm IDC. "Although our research found penetration of these services isn't likely to exceed 10% of all subscribers by 2010, video/TV services are poised to become a significant contributor to carrier data average revenue per user while emerging as a hotbed for community-oriented interaction and interesting advertising experiments," said IDC research manager Lewis Ward. The firm noted obstacles to adoption of mobile TV and video services including uneven operator broadband network deployments, handset limitations, business model complexities and indirect competition.
