Lanham, Md. - Vocus, a provider of on-demand software for public relations and corporate communications, announced on Monday that it has acquired online press release distribution service PRWeb for $28 million in cash and stock. Maryland-based Vocus said the purchase will allow its customers to simultaneously deliver press releases via PRWeb their own media lists managed with Vocus applications. Ferndale, Wash.-based PRWeb's press releases are indexed by Google News and Yahoo News, and are delivered through more than 20,000 RSS feeds. "The Internet has led to a dramatic increase in the number and types of media outlets and other website destinations from which consumers and journalists get their news," said Vocus president and CEO Rick Rudman. "PRWeb has fully developed the technologies, features and pricing model to enable organizations of all sizes to maximize their online visibility and to exploit the potential of this new communication channel."
