San Jose, Calif. - PlayPhone, a provider of direct-to-consumer mobile content distribution services, said on Monday that it has raised $9.1 million in its second round of funding, led by Menlo Ventures. Previous investor Cardinal Venture Partners also participated. The company said that it will use the infusion of cash to help further establish its brand and launch new mobile services. San Jose, Calif.-based PlayPhone's technology allows consumers to purchase content such as ringtones and mobile games. The company's list of mobile game partners include I-play, Glu Mobile, Vivendi Mobile Games and Sega Mobile.
