Burbank, Calif. - French electronics firm Thomson announced on Tuesday that its Technicolor Digital Cinema unit has signed an agreement with movie theater owner National Amusements, to install and maintain digital cinema systems in at least 120 theaters. In addition to more than 1,500 movie screens, National Amusements also holds controlling interests in Viacom and CBS. Burbank, Calif.-based Technicolor Digital Cinema's agreement with National Amusements is part of Thomson's broader rollout of complete digital projection systems in up to 5,000 screens over the next 3-4 years. Thomson intends to equip at least 15,000 screens in the U.S. and Canada, through the initial rollout and additional phases, over the next 10 years.
