Atlanta - Supercomputer International (SCI) announced on Tuesday that its PlayLinc network for online gaming is set to launch with partners including Verizon, AOL, Intel, "America's Army" and the Cyberathlete Professional League. The free PlayLinc service provides a single interface for communicating via voice and IM with all of a player's friends in different online games, while also allowing players to continue to surf the Internet. PlayLinc will also offer real-time voice chat for up to 32 players -- instead of peer-to-peer VoIP -- and will integrate with AOL's AIM for instant messaging within online games. Atlanta-based SCI said company investor Verizon will be the first to launch its service, via its forthcoming PlayLinc by Verizon Game Network.
