Viacom Ousts CEO Tom Freston; Philippe Dauman Named President & CEO

New York - Media conglomerate Viacom announced on Tuesday that company president and CEO Tom Freston has resigned from his positions. The parent company of MTV Networks, Paramount Pictures and Simon & Schuster named Philippe P. Dauman as its new president and CEO, and Thomas Dooley to the newly created post of chief administrative officer. Dauman has served as a director of Viacom since 1987, and most recently was executive vice president in charge of strategic transactions, legal and government affairs, human resources and administration. "Tom has been a friend and a colleague for many years and we wish him well as he moves on to the next stage of his career," said Viacom founder and executive chairman Sumner Redstone, adding, "I have worked closely with Philippe Dauman for many years, and I have a comfort level with him and high regard for his leadership abilities, strong financial and operational skills, and superb judgment."
