Buzz Watch: kSolo.com is A Lot of Fun

From Digital Music Forum West 2006: Why on earth would people want to listen to cheesy Karaoke-singers online? Well, if it was your friend, boss or someone famous singing, would you not be temped to easedrop? I sure would and it turns out a lot of other people would too. kSolo.com is an online success-story that is now part of MySpace and Fox Interactive.

Nimrod Lev, founder and GM at kSolo.com, is admitably not a very good singer. In fact, he had not even sung Karaoke before he came up with the idea for kSolo.com. The inspiration came from hearing a street artist perform in the subway in New York.

“It just made sense to let people express themselves this way on the Internet”, he said in an interview with Billboard Magazine Executive Editor Tamara Conniff at Digital Music Forum West, a conference organized by Digital Media Wire at the BelAge Hotel in Los Angeles.

Basically, kSolo.com let’s you ring Karaoke online, record your performances and share them with others.

“A lot of people are making asses out of themselves, definitely, but there are also some talented people out there. We have already had one label contacted us about one of the singers that uploaded her Karaoke-performance on our site”, said Nimrod Lev.

kSolo just got acquired by Fox Interactive. MySpace founder Tom Anderson surfed MySpace profiles and discoved kSolo on one of the profiles. He liked it and the rest is history.

“Right now we are subscription based. I think that if people are not willing to pay, it is probably a bad service. We charge $10 per month”, said Nimrod Lev.

If you want to listen to Nimrod Lev sing a beautiful duet version of “I Got You Babe” with Tamara Conniff, go to Basecamp’s website for audio downloads from the conference.

Yea-There is a certain

Yea-There is a certain someone-Male-Older than he claims to be online-Who thinks he's going to be a famous star because of KSolo. Hahaha. It may be fun and great to pass the time, but the scores do NOT reflect actual talent, people leave eachother an "applause" as if they're trying to advertise themselves to an agent who might happen to.."be cruisin around on ksolo" lol-And these people just get way too wrapped up into it; They become delusional and actually think they're on stage and about to become a celebrity. It's kind of sad really. Having fun is one thing-But you have some people on there-I'm not naming names, but his face is ALWAYS on "featured"-He actually gets mad and BLOCKS people who don't like his performances 100%. Some people are THAT serious. Have FUN people. You only live once. Not everything is a win or lose-You don't HAVE to be the best-ESPECIALLY on an internet based singing thing. You aren't getting paid!!!! Also-Some of you make it so obvious that you're just on there to "strike it rich". Hate to break it to ya, but if you wanted lots of money you should've gone to college for longer than 1 year or you need to move to NY or L.A to persue your singing.....or you need to get the hookup somewhere. My brother is 28, plays professional guitar, writes his music and looks a lot like a more handsome Brad Renfro, and he's already spent thousands trying to "make it"-It's AMAZING how many beautiful and talented people there are out there who are waiting in line to become noticed and get rich by their singing. Online karaoke won't do it. Sorry. Bad voices can make themselves sound better online, and vice versa. You want to get noticed for talent instead of just trying to MAKE BANK? How about write your own stuff, play an instrument, quit your job and devote every living minute to your future singing career. May sound hard, but that's how you have to do it unless you're born into a welathy, musical family like Miley Cirus or something. Good luck to ya! This was directed towards a certain someone who's a creep on KSolo. ;-)
