Buzz Watch: Scarlett Johansson Singing and Other Interesting Discoveries

Authored by Jay Baage on October 16, 2006 - 12:40pm.

Scarlett Johansson’s singing talents are just one of the interesting discoveries I have made on The Hype Machine, a new music web service started by 20-year-old Russian Immigrant and Hunter College computer science student Anthony Volodkin. It is more than just another music service, it allows you to listen to the next big act or undiscovered gem, before it becomes mainstream.

All real music nerds like myself likes to discover great music before everyone else. So far, you either had to either be friends with some A&R guy at an indie label or hang out at all small live music venues like the Mercury Lounge in NYC or Spaceland in Los Angeles, to do that. Now, you can just surf to The Hype Machine online. On the site you will find a list of songs, refreshed every hour, discussed on any of more than 600 selected music blogs that the service is programmed to monitor.

Back to Scarlett Johansson. I found out that she appears along side of a sparkling array of top film and television stars that came together for charity to sing delightful new versions of favorite contemporary night, love, and dream-themed musical selections, all accompanied by members of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra. Also on the album: Ewan McGregor, John Stamos, Jennifer Garner, Victor Garber, and more. The album benefits "Music Matters," the L.A. Phil's renowned educational programs and initiatives. Appearantly, Scarlett Johansson now has a record deal is in the works.
