Washington - HotSoup.com, an online community founded by a bipartisan group of political strategists said on Thursday that it has launched its social networking site. Plans for the site, geared toward people with thoughts about how to improve the country, were first announced in July. The site allows users to create profiles, publish messages, and post images. Its homepage features five panelists sharing their viewpoints on a single issue.

HotSoup.com's founders include former Clinton press secretary Joe Lockhart, and Matthew Dowd, chief strategist for the 2004 Bush presidential campaign. Former Associated Press senior political writer Ron Fournier serves as editor-in-chief.

This site is not ready for prime time. The site managers have taken lots of recommendations from its early users (this one included) in its first week and have been responsive in terms of acknowledging work to do. Apart from the bugs, the site has many design flaws, and/or flawed design assumptions (users don't have the option to permit private emails from other registered users), that don't fully permit easy common interest connections.

And in the age of transparency, the About page lists the people responsible without last names. Like this is a treehouse. Web 1.75 at best. A hopeful idea, though.
