London - Mind Candy, the U.K.-based game developer that created the alternate reality game "Perplex City," announced on Thursday that it has raised $7 million in a new round of venture capital financing.
Investors participating in the round included Accel Partners, Index Ventures and NewMedia Spark. Mind Candy's "Perplex City" is a $200,000 treasure hunt that incorporates real-world events, websites, text messages, TV, print and other media. The company said the first season of the game generated "several million dollars" in revenue, and plans to launch the second season of "Perplex City" in early 2007. The funding will also go towards the development of its second major puzzle brand, to be aimed at a younger demographic.
