Consumer Electronics Firms to Develop WirelessHD StandardAuthored by Mark Hefflinger on October 31, 2006 - 2:31pm.
Sunnyvale, Calif. - Seven consumer electronics firms, including Panasonic, Samsung, Sony and Toshiba, said on Tuesday that they have formed a new special interest group called WirelessHD.
The group plans to develop a specification for a wireless high-definition digital interface that will enable HD audio and video streaming and high-speed content transmission in consumer electronics devices. WirelessHD will use the 60 GHz frequency band to enable wireless uncompressed high-definition, high-quality video and data transmission, and is first targeted to be built into HDTVs. Specifications are expected to be completed in the spring.
