Columbia, Md. - iBiquity Digital, the developer of HD Radio technology that lets radio stations transmit a digital signal alongside their traditional analog signals, announced on Wednesday that Brazilian broadcasters have formed an alliance to promote the adoption of HD Radio.
There are currently 16 stations in Brazil broadcasting with the technology. The Brazilian Alliance for Digital Radio counts nearly 2,500 stations supporting its efforts, including the Brazilian Association of Radio and Television Broadcasters (ABERT) and the Association of Broadcasters of Sao Paulo (AESP). Earlier this month, Chile's Continental Lensa became the first licensed HD Radio broadcast equipment maker outside of North America. Maryland-based iBiquity said other countries deploying or testing HD Radio include Australia, Canada, France, Mexico, Philippines, Switzerland, Thailand and Ukraine.
