Discovery Buys Petfinder.com and PetsIncredible

Silver Spring, Md. - Discovery Communications announced that it has acquired Arizona-based Petfinder.com and Florida-based PetsIncredible, integrating both into a newly formed business called Animal Planet Media Enterprises.

Petfinder.com is a popular sire that works with animal shelters and rescue groups to facilitates pet adoption. PetsIncredible is a producer and distributor of pet-training videos, and operates the PetVideo.com Web service. Discovery did not disclose the financial terms of either deal.

The company said that it plans to make Animal Planet Media Enterprises a centralized online, television and mobile community for pet owners and animal lovers, offering an array of content, products and services. It will be headed by Maureen Smith, the executive vice president and general manager of Animal Planet.
