RealNetworks Sees Profit Spike on Game Sales, Microsoft Settlement

Seattle - Media delivery technology provider RealNetworks saw its shares rise nearly 10% on Tuesday, after the company reported a spike in third-quarter profit to $42.2 million, compared with $11.2 million in the same period a year ago.

Along with a gain from the company's antitrust settlement with Microsoft, revenue from the company's games services rose 53% from the third quarter a year ago, to $22.5 million, while its music services saw 16% growth and $30.4 million in revenue.

Overall, RealNetworks now counts 2.45 million subscribers to its various paid services, up from 2.2 million a year ago. The company's music services claim 1.65 million paid subscribers.
