Grouper to Post Sony TV, Movie Clips, Sell DVDs and DownloadsAuthored by Mark Hefflinger on November 9, 2006 - 2:18pm.
Culver City, Calif. - User-generated video site Grouper, which was recently acquired by Sony Pictures Entertainment for $65 million, announced on Thursday the launch of "ScreenBites," a new channel that will feature clips of Sony Pictures movies and TV shows, with links to purchase the full programs on DVD or as a digital download.
The channel will let users embed clips such as Cuba Gooding Jr.'s "Show me the money!" scene from "Jerry Maguire" and Robert De Niro's "You talkin' to me?" scene in "Taxi Driver" on blogs and profile pages on social networks. The site will initially offer 100 clips from Sony properties, expanding by hundreds more over the next few months. "The heart and soul of Grouper exists in our incredible user-generated videos, but our millions of users will also have fun watching 'Show Me The Money' moments from must-have Sony Pictures movies and TV shows and sharing them with friends or posting on their MySpace, Blogger and Facebook pages," said Grouper president and co-founder Josh Felser.
