Yahoo to Offer Instant Messaging Within Email Program

Sunnyvale, Calif. - Yahoo is planning to incorporate instant messaging functionality into its free e-mail service in the coming months, Reuters reported on Thursday.

The move will allow the 250 million active monthly users of Yahoo Mail to also run Yahoo Messenger in the same browser, letting them simply click an icon to switch from e-mail to IM. Mountain View-based Google already offers a similar feature with its Google Talk and Gmail services.
