Liberty Media's Starz Debuts Film Studio, Plans 8-12 Movies Annually

Englewood, Colo. - Liberty Media's Starz announced on Monday the launch of a motion picture studio, Overture Films, that plans to produce 8-12 full-length feature films per year.

The company named Chris McGurk, a former MGM executive, as CEO of Los Angeles-based Overture Films. Overture's target is for about 60% of the films to be original productions, with the rest to be acquired.

In addition to in theaters, the studio's films will be distributed on the company's premium cable and satellite TV channels, and its Vongo movie download service. Overture plans to release its first titles in mid-2007.
